They say pain is a fact and suffering is a choice. Well, only if some choices were so easy to make. It isn’t a question of absolutes or choices, but of our willingness to make a choice. Because sometimes, it feels wrong not to suffer. As if we want to punish ourselves for things we couldn’t control. Some even consider it therapeutic. A way to self medicate.

It also is a method to validate one’s own feelings. The social signalling associated with one’s suffering makes the sufferer feel felt and understood.

You cut yourself, engage in anti-social behaviour, lock yourself up for days, and get stuck in an insidious process of self-destruction. You want to kill yourself because you know no other method of expression through which you could make them feel what you do. You feel, maybe this final act of wanting to be felt, and not just heard, can make them see.

But always remember, you do not have to kill yourself as a way to validate your feelings. Your sufferings do not need proof.

You have pain. And you have the choice to suffer for it.

I’m not the one to be telling you which choice should you make, But if you really do choose to suffer, or if you couldn’t make the choice of not suffering, Remember, it is easier when you have something worth suffering for.

Suffering for the sake of having your pains recognized by society isn’t worth it. Society does not care enough, for all it can do for you is to provide you with momentary relief through half-hearted words. And even If it did, care, because it at some point goes through the same suffering, then again, the scope of your sufferings would only be limited to you, perishing as you do.

If if you really want to get stuck in your loops of suffering, suffer like a freaking legend. Suffer for something larger than life.

Suffer for ideas, dreams, goals and even experiences.

Buddha, Jesus and Sai are the OGs of suffering.

Each had something worth suffering.

At some point, your sufferings start defining your life.

Make your life larger than itself.

If you cannot beat your sufferings, use them.

Not for validation, but for creation.

Someday, they’ll stop hurting as much.
